How do I enable or disable SMS settings for a phone number?

You may enable or disable SMS settings on individual numbers via the Bandwidth Dashboard. To access this setting and make changes, perform the following steps:

  1. Log into the Bandwidth Dashboard.
  2. Navigate to the Search Telephone Numbers section on right side of the home page. 
  3. Type or paste the phone number into the search field and click Search.


  1. Click the blue phone number link in the Search Results section.


  1. Once you're on the Phone Number Details page, scroll down to SMS Settings. 
  2. Switch the toggle on to enable SMS or off to disable it. Click Save.


Note: Please open a ticket with your Bandwidth Support Team if you'd like the SMS settings on your new phone numbers to be enabled or disabled by default.

Important: If you're a V1 HTTP Messaging customer, please ensure that your phone numbers are registered for Messaging before using them for Messaging APIs. You'll then need to import the phone numbers from the Bandwidth Dashboard to your Bandwidth Application Platform Account.

How do I enable or disable SMS settings for a phone number in bulk?

If you'd like to change SMS settings for a group of phone numbers in bulk, perform the following steps:

  1. Log into the Bandwidth Dashboard.
  2. In the top navigation bar, click Numbers and then select Upload Line Features.
  3. On the Upload Line Features page, click download a template .csv file. This will download the CSV file into your web browser. 
  4. Click the file to open it.
    • Note: If you don't see the file, check the Downloads section in your web browser or the Downloads folder on your computer. 


  1. Once you open the file, erase all example information in rows 3-5 before entering your data. 
  2. In column A, enter the phone numbers for which you'd like to enable or disable SMS settings.
  3. In column F, specify if you want the SMS settings on or off for each phone number. If you don't want them to change, type unchanged or simply leave the cell blank.


  1. Once complete, save the spreadsheet as a CSV file and navigate back to the Upload Line Features page in the Bandwidth Dashboard.  
  2. Drop the file into the Choose a .csv file to import field or click Browse to search for it on your computer.
  3. Once you upload the file, click Import to submit it.
