What's happening?

In an effort to enhance consumer protection and reduce the risk of phishing, fraud, and other malicious activities conducted via SMS, the Malaysian Communications & Multimedia Commission (MCMC) has directed all service providers to block SMS messages sent to Malaysian numbers that contain any of the following prohibited content at the network level:

  • URL/Hyperlinks
    • Any SMS containing links to websites or online resources
  • Requests for Personal Information
    • SMS content that asks for personal details such as identification numbers, passwords, or other sensitive information
  • Callback/Contact Numbers
    • SMS content including any telephone numbers intended for callbacks or general contact purposes

What do I need to know?

If we detect SMS messages sent to Malaysian numbers containing any of the above-mentioned prohibited content on your account, your traffic may be blocked, and your services may be suspended. To avoid any disruption in your Peer-to-Peer (P2P) and Application-to-Peer (A2P) SMS communications to Malaysian numbers, please refrain from including URLs, requests for personal information, or callback telephone numbers.
