Upgrading to the Universal Platform
The Universal Platform is Bandwidth's next-gen global platform, designed to help you achieve efficient automated workflows, flexibility with integrations, and global control over your communications — all in a single platform experience.
If you’re a new customer, you’ll be onboarded directly to the Universal Platform. If you’re an existing customer, please contact your Bandwidth Account Manager to upgrade your account and take full advantage of the new features and improvements.
Once you get access to your new Universal Account, you’ll be able to order and port numbers, configure voice settings, manage emergency endpoints and addresses, comply with local requirements, send text messages, activate services, and more! We also make it easy for you to manage configuration and compliance for all of your numbers worldwide.
Upgrading from the Legacy North American Platform
If you’re upgrading from our Legacy North American Platform, formerly known as the Bandwidth Dashboard, you’ll see the following changes compared to your previous experience.
Voice provisioning
Voice settings for groups of numbers can now be configured via Voice Configuration Packages (VCPs) instead of Locations. VCPs allow you to group together large groups of numbers with identical configurations and quickly update all of them, thus reducing the administrative overhead of configuring settings for each Location.
Compliance
To utilize non-North American Numbering Plan (NANP) numbers, you may be required to provide additional documentation to ensure compliance with local regulations. To help you reduce complexity and streamline this process, we’ve introduced Requirements Packages.
Service activation
Once all the regulatory requirements have been met, you can begin activating services on your phone numbers. When purchasing or porting numbers, service activation can be automatic if the appropriate Requirements Packages have been created and attached to the numbers.
Upgrading from the Legacy Global Platform
If you’re upgrading from Legacy Global Platform, formerly known as the Voxbone (now Bandwidth) Portal, you’ll be given access to a Universal Platform account.
Account structure
Your Account is where you perform all functions within the Bandwidth App. For more information, please review the Account structure and check out our self-guided training.
Orders
The Universal Platform lets you perform various orders (e.g., Purchase, Port In, Disconnect, Move, etc.), expanding beyond the purchase process as it was on the Legacy Global Platform.
Orders in the Universal Platform are generally asynchronous, allowing you to monitor their progress using a status endpoint. You can also subscribe to orders to receive updates about status changes via a webhook.
Cart (Legacy) and Number orders (Universal Platform)
On the Universal Platform, the process for searching and ordering phone numbers resembles a simpler streamlined flow moving away from the traditional cart model where you can search for numbers matching specific criteria and order the list of desired numbers.
Voice URI (Legacy) and Voice Configuration Packages (Universal Platform)
The Universal Platform introduces Voice Configuration Packages, which enhance the Legacy Voice URI concept by including additional settings such as CNAM, STIR/SHAKEN configuration, and HTTP Voice settings.
Addresses (Legacy) and Requirement Packages (Universal Platform)
On the Universal Platform, the address used for Service Activation has been refined into multiple components for improved reusability.
Single Sign-On integration
Single Sign-On (SSO) is an authentication method that allows you to log in to multiple applications using just one set of credentials. You can configure a SAML 2.0 Identity Provider (IdP) with Bandwidth SSO to authenticate users to the Bandwidth App.
Updated terminology
The Universal Platform introduces updates to the legacy terminology:
- Inbound is now Origination
- Outbound is now Termination
- CNAM DID Configuration is now LIDB Update
