What is Hosted Messaging?

Hosted Messaging is a service that allows Bandwidth customers to enable messaging on numbers they don't own for voice. This product is designed to allow customers to send and receive SMS/MMS messages using the Bandwidth platform while leaving the voice service in place with the current carrier/service provider.

Message enablement must only occur with the express consent of the authorized end-user. Further, to purchase this product, you must obtain a valid Letter of Authorization (LOA) from the subscriber or the NANPA numbering provider that supports the current voice services, such as the CLEC (local, non-wireless numbers) or RespOrg (toll-free). The templates of the Subscriber LOA and the Carrier LOA are included at the end of this article.

Note: You must be able to monitor and manage port out activity on your numbers.

Does Hosted Messaging support all messaging product types?

Yes, you may utilize either SMPP/MM4 or HTTP protocol.

SMS and MMS work the same both on a Bandwidth-provided number and on a customer-supplied landline/VoIP number. All Bandwidth messaging products, such as short code reach, toll-free messaging, and international zones 2-5, work the same as they do on a Bandwidth-provided phone number.
