Unlike SMS, the MMS protocols are not globally standardized, making it more technically difficult for operators around the world to interoperate. Even many of the world's largest wireless operators can not exchange MMS between their networks.

For example: Verizon and Vodafone do not support MMS across their networks in Spain. The challenges are generally on media transcoding and file size/type management which vary from network to network.

Although Bandwidth continues to expand our reach and capabilities, with some new countries and operators supported outside the US and Canada, overall Bandwidth doesn’t expect global MMS reach will ever mirror the ubiquity of global SMS reach.
