You may send messages over 160 characters to international phone numbers (for GSM-7 encoding), or 70 characters (for USC-2 encoding).
Bandwidth will always segment and send as a concatenated message. In many cases, destination operators support this feature. They may, however, appear as multiple messages on the destination handset, depending on whether the receiving carrier supports concatenated SMS.
