How do I move phone numbers to a different Account?

If you have multiple Accounts configured in the Bandwidth App, you can move up to 5,000 phone numbers between them via a Move Phone Numbers order. This process is similar to moving numbers between Sub-accounts and Locations within the same Account, but please keep in mind that:

  • The Accounts must belong to the same customer
  • The user must have access to both Accounts
  • The user has to have either Configuration or Line Features role enabled
  • Move Phone Numbers order can’t be used to move external numbers. Please continue to use the Import Numbers tab for that.

To move phone numbers to a different Account:

  1. Log in to the Bandwidth App.
  2. In the side navigation bar, select Numbers and click My Numbers.
  3. Select the Move Numbers tab.
  4. Under Phone Numbers, enter the numbers manually or upload a list of them in a CSV file.
  5. Select the Destination Account, Sub-account and Location where you want to move the numbers, as well as what you'd like to do with your existing E911 configuration (if applicable).
  6. Click Move Numbers.

  1. A notification will appear at the top of the page with a View Order link. Click that link to go to the Move Phone Numbers Order Details page to see the order information. If the numbers have been moved from another account, its will be listed next to Source Account.

Can I move phone numbers via API?

Yes, however, the current /movetnsendpoint used to move numbers within an account without creating an order is being deprecated on June 1, 2025. We recommend switching to the new order-based endpoint instead.

There are multiple benefits to using the new order-based endpoint:

  • Allows for partial success
  • Provides order history information
  • Allows for notification callbacks
  • Allows for moving numbers across accounts

To switch to the order-based endpoint, you need to:

  1. Change your endpoint URL
  2. Update the request payload

Here’s an example of what a typical change will look like:
